Today’s ArtDrop an abstract “improvisational" contemporary wall sculpture by innovative designer Norman Teague titled 'Blue Note’ from 2024.
The image shows ‘Blue Note’ installed above a cabinet and small sculpture in a museum. ‘Blue Note’ is a sculptural wall artwork in two shades of blue dividing the sculpture in half horizontally. The piece is made up of four balanced adjacent curvilinear shapes.

Today’s ArtDrop is a mixed media and collage on panel, ‘Girl with Egret’ made in 1975 by Romare Bearden.
The image shows an artwork of a woman’s black silhouette bathing in the light of a crescent moon. She stands in a blue pool of water at the base of a turquoise waterfall. There are green areas that imply tall trees, foliage, and the river bank. Each area of color has its own texture. On the riverbank in the foreground is a white egret facing the woman. The night sky is flat green with a few stars. The moon is half risen above the treetops. Its orb is partly shadowed in green and part bright crescent. Today’s ArtDrop is a road sign called ‘Danger Ice in Area' from 2026 by activist artist, Dread Scott. The image is in the shape of a yellow diamond warning road sign. It features a simple figure of a masked ICE agent shooting into a car. The text reads, “DANGER ICE IN AREA”. Today’s ArtDrop is an oil on canvas landscape by Hudson River School artist Robert S. Duncanson. ‘Landscape with Rainbow’ was completed in 1959.
This is an arcadian horizontal midwestern landscape with forested rolling hills on the right side’s horizon, a river in the mid distance and a meadow with cattle in the foreground. The arc of a rainbow leads the eye from the top right to a little cottage nestled in the woods on the right edge of the painting. On the left, a tiny man and woman within the meadow point toward the rainbow and the cottage. Today’s ArtDrop is an egg tempera painting on hardboard. ‘The Businessmen' was painted by Jacob Lawrence in 1945.
The image shows a business meeting of four men in black suits in a circle. Two are clutching red briefcases and three are holding papers. The fourth man on the right hold his head in his hand. The work is semiabstract with the group of men in the center and surrounded by a textured orange background. There is a rhythm in the various placements of the figures’ hands around the circle. Today’s ArtDrop is ‘Safety Patrol’ a quilt by Bisa Butler from 2018.
The image shows a group portrait of mid-20th-century African-American school children. In the foreground is a boy with a crossing guard sash. He alertly watches the intersection over the lenses of his sunglasses. He is facing the viewers while protectively holding back the rest of the children with his arms outstretched. All of the figures are composed of a scintillating collage of patterned fabrics. The background fabric is a subdued grey and white floral. Today’s ArtDrop is a monumental bronze sculpture from 2019, ‘Brick House’ by Simone Leigh. This sculpture is from Leigh’s Anatomy of Architecture Series.
The image shows the 16’ sculpture during its two-year installation amid greenery on the Highline Spur in New York surrounded by skyscrapers. The sculpture is a bust of a woman with a vernacular African domed house as her shoulders and torso. Her neck and head rise from the peak of the dome. The photograph shows the sculpture in profile with nose and mouth delineated. The eye area is flat and undetailed. She has an elaborate hairstyle with a short natural afro with large long braids framing the face with cowrie shell ornaments at the tips of the braids. Today’s ArtDrop is ‘Rainbow Wings’, an abstract watercolor painting on paper from 1966 by Alma Thomas.
The images shows what looks like two large blue bags of dark blue starry night sky bursting open. Stripes of color are emerging from within. The surrounding area of white has some shadowy washes of light color or paint water. Today’s ArtDrop is a textile art quilt ‘Street Story Quilt by Faith Ringgold from 1985.
The image shows a row of three five-story urban apartment buildings with large windows. Through the windows we can see the people busy living their lives. At ground level, there are parked cars and people are emerging or hanging out at two of the entrances. Honeymoon Panopticon will be one of the many pieces featured in CAVA’s Member Exhibit at MANA Contemporary, 2233 S. Throop in Chicago starting March 1, 2026. The public reception is Saturday, March 7 from 1 to 3:30 pm. This is a great way to shop the work of well over 100 Chicago area artists in one exhibition!
